What do I have to pay attention to when buying a 3D beamer?

It is not always easy to discover the beamer with which three-dimensional content will be enjoyed in the future. After all, manufacturers offer a wide range of models that differ considerably.

However, certain values that you need to know make it easy to classify the 3D beamers. In this way, you can immediately see whether the respective device is suitable for your needs. We will tell you what to look out for if you want to purchase a 3D projector.

Before buying the 3D beamer, you have to choose a model. The manufacturers offer three different designs. In addition to active 3D beamers, passive devices are also offered.

The active systems, which are offered as LCD and DLP variants, are less expensive.

Both need so-called shutter glasses, which serve as visual aids to visualize the different image planes generated by the beamer. The glasses can also be used by many people with visual impairments.

After all, conventional shutter systems fit over conventional glasses. Often only one pair of shutter glasses is supplied with the beamer. It is advisable to purchase the appropriate visual aids so that several people can enjoy the screen at the same time.

Passive 3D projectors are considerably more expensive. These work with a special polarization technology, in which two beamers generate the image. Spectators need so-called pole glasses that guide the light.

These goggles do not require electricity, which means that there is no wiring required for many active projectors. However, this is clearly reflected in the price for passive beamers. These are usually much more expensive than the active variants.

For this reason, experts usually recommend 3D projectors that work with active shutter glasses. However, both designs can be used well, which would be shown in a practical test. All systems can be easily viewed in 2D mode. Then no glasses are required.

An important factor that should be taken into account when making a purchase decision is the resolution that the projector can generate. A minimum resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, referred to as Full HD, is now state-of-the-art.

This resolution should at least offer your future 3D beamer, because otherwise the device would no longer be up to date. Other projectors can do even more. They offer a resolution of 4,096 by 2,160 pixels, which corresponds to the Ultra HD mode. However, these devices are still very expensive.

The image that appears on the screen is projected with the help of one or even several lamps. Therefore, pay attention to the value by which the brightness is quantified. After all, you can use the beamer better if the brightness value is higher.

Basically, a higher light or lumen value extends the possibilities of using the 3D beamer. If the projector has only a low lumen number, you must darken the rooms so that the beamer can work. 3D projectors with a high lumen value can also be used in daylight.

Contrast is another factor that should be taken into account when making a purchase decision. This value quantifies the maximum brightness difference between black and white colors. Higher contrast results in sharper images and richer colours.

The projectors for 3D home cinema should therefore have a high contrast value, because otherwise the black and white tones will not come into their own. This is particularly noticeable in the case of film classics whose image quality suffers noticeably if the 3D beamer has only a low contrast value.

Therefore, your future beamer should have a contrast value of at least 10,000 to 1. This means that the brightest point is a thousand times brighter than the darkest pixel that the beamer can generate.
Be sure to pay attention to the minimum and maximum diagonal of the image before purchasing the projector. The screen diagonal is quantified in inches, as for TVs, monitors or laptops. Depending on the size of the available wall, a suitable 3-beamer can be selected.

If in doubt, measure again. With this diagonal value you can easily determine the maximum possible image size of the beamer. This significantly reduces the risk of a false purchase.

Current 3D beamers can be equipped with different devices. The standard projectors are not only compatible with 3D Blu-ray players, but also with different game consoles, TV boxes and receivers.

Some models can even be combined with a data stick to get photos and videos on the screen. For this purpose, the appropriate connections are required, which manufacturers are happy to save money on. Make sure that the preferred model has enough inputs. The models with multiple HDMI inputs of the 1.4. a standard are best.

One or more USB inputs to which portable hard drives and USB sticks can be connected are also advantageous. An SD input port is also convenient, providing space for memory cards. After all, your beamer could even replace the TV because it can take over all functions.

If you want to combine a smartphone or tablet with the 3D beamer, you should make sure that the desired model has an MHL port or can be integrated into your home network via WLAN. The phone or tablet can then be easily connected to the projector.

This makes it easy to bring different content to the big screen, even though they are actually on small tablets or smartphones.
